A new talent is getting noticed!
Taylor Tompson's debut novel, "Crowning Glory River's Journey" is an exploration of passion and dreams in the dark and dangerous world of child abuse, bigotry, and lust that introduces the reader to River. Her metaphorical journey must become a physical one if she is to escape the 1950's racism in Hopewell, Texas. She must learn to successfully navigate her way through the maze of sexual, racial, gender, and work identities if she is to become the woman she hopes to be. Love of family, talent, and courage inspire her to confront internal and external obstacles, some horrific. Not all journeys have a happy ending, perhaps a quiet reprieve before continuing one's journey is enough for this brave woman.
Taylor Thompsons's debut novel is getting rave reviews.
Dr. David C. Hall, Family Psychiatrist: "Taylor Thompson's novel and its truths about emotional trauma are universal. They apply to all races and cultures. This could be required reading for any...college class in American history...or trauma psychology. This novel sits with dignity along side Dick Gregory's 'Nigger'...and Alice Walker's 'The Color Purple' ..Oprah and Michelle deserve a copy."
D. Donavan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review: "Through River's eyes...readers are provided a journey through sexual discovery, social and cultural challenges, and the process of awakening...both enlightening and engrossing."
Emma Thompson, USA Book Review: "This novel is a spectacular read by a very talented author...[featuring ] a strong female character, a captivating plot, and exquisite prose. It is entertaining, heartbreaking, and mesmerizing from start to finish."
Ruffina Oserio, Readers' Favorite: "River is a character readers will quickly learn to love. She is a fighter and I love how she fights to claim her place in the world. An engaging read, indeed. Five Stars."
K. C. Finn, Readers' World: "At its heart, River's is a deeply personal story which is sure to touch the hearts of its readers who enjoy drama and complex, emotive tales, but the talent of Taylor Thompson spreads far beyond the story into real-world issues. Raw and unfiltered, we see a real woman and a real story...making it heart-warming and heart-breaking at different times."

Words, articles, tips & concerns
Still, today, Black women's hair continues to be a topic of great concern which I find interesting and confusing.
Overcoming internalized racism, and my journey to self-love Often, the seeds of self-rejection are unknowingly, and even lovingly, sown. To grow beyond this limiting sense of self can be a difficult journey. My goal in writing this novel is to have us consider how much of a woman's sense of self is influenced by her perceived desirability, be it sexual or otherwise. Then to pose the question, how does one grow beyond society's negative value often assigned to black women? I delve into issues of black hair, black women's sexuality, interracial relationships, and sisterhood.
